Something a little different?
OK, so we do robust and highly usable content management systems and ecommerce systems - both of which can be customised. Sometimes however, something else is needed.
Around 75% of the projects we work on involve custom development - building something specific to your client's needs. In these cases we work with you to design a solution which meets every expectation in terms of quality, budget and schedule. This might be something as simple as a data capture form, right through to an all-singing, all-dancing digital masterpiece
What have we done?
As most of the work we do is on behalf of design agencies, we wouldn't dream of publicly taking credit for work we've done (without their permission, of course!). You can see some examples of work and read some testimonials, but to give you an idea of work we've done:
- Competition entry forms
- Online registration/membership
- Events management
- Carbon-offsetting calculations
- Classified advertising
- Live news feeds
- Merchandising systems
- Multi-lingual content delivery
- Online games
- Job search and listings
- Subcriptions, purchases and one-off payments
Why use websushi?
Even though we can develop systems from scratch, we have over 9 years of completed projects, providing an excellent code library we can use and refine for future projects. The use of this code reduces our development time, meaning that although you get a custom system, it's based on tried and tested functionality in a production environment.
Coming from a technology background, we also have a great deal of experience of testing website applications - much of this working for large organisations working on public sector projects. We understand the importance of testing, and work to ensure the site is cross-browser friendly, accessible, usable and ultimately meets and exceeds the needs of your client.
Finally, while we're technology experts, we are also human. We may occasionally work hunched over a PC in a darkened room, but we are also quite presentable, and can communicate in plain English. We're often presented in client meetings to help explain functionality or technical challenges in a project.
Technology
We've tried to avoid using buzzwords, geek-speak, and TLAs (three-letter acronyms) across the site, but the technology we use is important. It may affect the web hosting environment selected, and some organisations place restrictions on the type of technology to be used.
We use:
- PHP - a server-side programming language used to build dynamic webpages (does stuff)
- MySQL - a relational database management system (stores stuff)
- JavaScript - a client-side scripting language that runs in the user's web browser (does more stuff)
PHP and MySQL are open-source technologies, and power some of the biggest websites out there, including Wikipedia, WordPress, facebook (some elements), flickr and around 20 million others.
Not everyone has JavaScript enabled, so wherever possible we'll make sure the website still works with this 'turned off'.
