PC Users - Is Outlook really slow for you?
Friday 8th May 2009
I'm a PC user (although I'm going to be crossing to the dark side and getting a Mac in a few months - more on that later...) and use Microsoft Outlook a lot to manage my working life - email, calendar, tasks...
As time went on things got slower and sloowweerr and ssllooowwweeerrr... Not surprising seeing I had years of emails stored away (in Archive folders too).
However, I began to realise that the problem wasn't so much the number of emails I had, as the attachments. As I work with designers, it's not uncommon for me to be sent 4MB PSD files - which I've simply stored in my email (which in turn is stored in Microsoft Outlooks 'pst' file).
To solve this issue (and to make Outlook run MUCH faster) I came across this Outlook Attachment Remover from the very clever guys from Kopf in Brazil.
Basically, it scans through your email, puts all the attachments in a folder of your choice, and creates a shortcut from the original email. End result, nothing's changed about the way you work - but Outlook runs much faster! It reduced by PST file size by 75%!
If you use Outlook on a PC I recommend you take a look!
